More than a century of accomplishments.

For the first 40 years, NECC provided the following for the immigrant families of Northeast Kansas City, who were primarily of Italian descent.
  • Clinics for medical care of adults and children
  • Child care
  • Naturalization classes and English lessons
  • Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as scouting
  • Intramural sports teams and coaching
  • Counseling
  • Legal assistance
  • Spiritual guidance
  • Exposure to cultural arts

Over the next 20 years, NECC evolved into the Bisceglia Cultural Center.
  • Re-designed and improved the campus with historical photographs and artwork
  • Created a theater in the gymnasium which could be used for cultural activities when not being used for sports
  • Opened the doors to community activities; provided cultural activity for the changing neighborhood with opera, ballet and other musical performances
  • Provided space for Italian lessons, cooking demonstrations and an area for “Circulo Italiano” to convene

NECC continues its commitment to the community.  From 1999 to present:
  • Created and supported Scuola Vita Nuova (SVN) Charter School through the leadership of Judge Charles Shangler.
  • Financially supported the charter school for six years until they were fiscally independent.
  • Expanded and created a middle school and outdoor classroom with reserve funds and gifts by Judge Shangler.
  • As landlord then to SVN, NECC continued to maintain the beauty and safety of the campus for staff and students.
  • Provided scholarships to students and adults toward high school, college, music academies and summer camps.
  • Financially supported students of SVN and their families in times of need.
  • Supported field trips and holiday celebrations for students, staff, and family of SVN.
  • Donated musical instruments to SVN student’s music class.
  • Contributed to computer and internet technology needs for SVN.
  • Partnered with a multitude of not for profit agencies in the Northeast and beyond to provide assistance or referrals for families in need.
  • Contributed to job training programs at Don Bosco Center.
  • Participated financially in holiday family “adoption” programs and cold weather needs for the homeless shelters of the Northeast.
  • Supports neighborhood associations and local businesses as a member of the Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT) organization in working to improve the future of the Northeast area.
  • Sponsors a music program for children from the Northeast - Harmony Project KC.
  • Continues to mentor and find scholarship opportunities for deserving students.
