Dear HPKC families,

We have missed you and your students over the winter break, and we look forward to the sound of music coming from classrooms again.

This year and every year, we commit to creating a place of creativity, growth, and safety for your family. The staff is participating in meetings this week to ensure the sanctity of safety and community are preserved for families.

We want to ensure that you are informed regarding how we plan to respond if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrives at our campus.

  1. Safe Campus: It is NECC’s protocol to hold any conversation with ICE off campus property (outside the gates) in an effort to minimize disruption to the learning environment for our students. NECC staff will verify the identification of the ICE agent. We will also be contacting families to ensure we have an accurate and full list of emergency contacts. This is a reminder to use the car tag system, and if you need an additional car tag to come into the Olive Building during arrival.

  2. Data Security: We maintain all student and family information confidentially. Current guidance reminds us that administrative warrants and subpoenas do not compel NECC to share any information or allow access to any files. If there is a judicial warrant, NECC will contact legal counsel.

  3. Communication: If an incident occurs on campus, we will communicate with families as we are able while protecting anonymity of the individuals involved.

  4. Support: Please be on the lookout for information from NECC regarding upcoming informational sessions regarding how we can support ourselves and our neighbors. If your family is seeking legal counsel regarding your situation, please consider an application to our Emergency Assistance Fund.

Your students are the heartbeat of our campus - the music they create together reminds us how powerful we are as a community.

In peace,

Kyla Pitts-Zevin, Executive Director
